Theatre Wins Governor’s Tourism Arts Award!
Surflight Theatre, Ocean
County’s only
professional (501c3) theatre on Long Beach
Island
, is excited to
announce that it has been selected as the 2003 recipient of the Governor’s
Tourism Arts Award. Awarded to an organization that has developed a creative,
dynamic, and exemplary program that encourages tourism and furthers the
awareness, understanding and appreciation of the arts in New Jersey, Surflight
Theatre is very proud to be recognized for its contribution to the state and
the tourism industry. In operation since 1950, Surflight Theatre has been
striving since 1998, under the new direction of Artistic Director Steve Steiner, to upgrade its
facility, improve quality of productions, increase audience size and awareness
of the theatre, as well as serve to provide the opportunity for exposure to the
performing arts at a reasonable price for all who wish to attend.
While
certainly a tourism destination being on Long Beach
Island, Surflight Theatre is
also dedicated to providing a quality performing arts center for LBI and the
surrounding Mainland as well as to the visitors, offering diversity of
programming in musical theatre, children’s theatre, plays, the very popular
holiday musical, and through Celebrity concert series.
The
Tourism arts award was given on Thursday, April 10th by Governor
McGreevey at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism in
Atlantic City
.
