Surflight Theatre Wins Governor’s Tourism Arts Award!

Surflight Theatre, Ocean County’s only professional (501c3) theatre on Long Beach Island , is excited to announce that it has been selected as the 2003 recipient of the Governor’s Tourism Arts Award. Awarded to an organization that has developed a creative, dynamic, and exemplary program that encourages tourism and furthers the awareness, understanding and appreciation of the arts in New Jersey, Surflight Theatre is very proud to be recognized for its contribution to the state and the tourism industry. In operation since 1950, Surflight Theatre has been striving since 1998, under the new direction of Artistic Director Steve Steiner, to upgrade its facility, improve quality of productions, increase audience size and awareness of the theatre, as well as serve to provide the opportunity for exposure to the performing arts at a reasonable price for all who wish to attend.

While certainly a tourism destination being on Long Beach Island, Surflight Theatre is also dedicated to providing a quality performing arts center for LBI and the surrounding Mainland as well as to the visitors, offering diversity of programming in musical theatre, children’s theatre, plays, the very popular holiday musical, and through Celebrity concert series.

The Tourism arts award was given on Thursday, April 10th by Governor McGreevey at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Atlantic City .
