About our Programs

Surflight Theatre's Musical Theatre summer programs allow students to explore the craft of acting, singing, dance and learn the discipline of performing, as they develop their own unique creative voices through the study of scenes and songs from age-appropriate musicals. Each session will focus on a specific musical as stated below.

Students develop poise, movement, speaking, and acting skills as they explore improvisation, theatre games and character development, which culminates in a short presentation of a musical showcase at the end of the session. Students will have a time they will never forget as they experience their own "Broadway at the Beach."

Apprenticeships

2024 Apprentice Program

Surflight Theatre’s Teen Apprentice Program is a flexible program for High School students going into 9th to 12th grades or 2024 graduates.

Known as the 4, 4 & 4 program, it consists of a commitment of 4 hours a day, 4 days a week for 4 weeks.

More time can be spent at the theatre if interested. In which case you could be assigned to run crew for Children’s Theatre: stage managing, running spotlight, assisting backstage on run crew, ushering, etc. For those who are very interested in spotlight duties for Mainstage shows it may also be a possibility.

The Apprentice Program is an opportunity to learn many theatre skills which are also life skills and can be used in many applications outside of theatre. Apprentices may work next to skilled professionals, college age interns and see first-hand how the business of theatre works.

Since Surflight is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Apprentice hours count as service hours for NHS and college applications.
